she/her/hers

I fell in love with drawing through my childhood interests in anime, manga, and video games.  All of which played a large part in my initial interest in art as a child.  Despite the pushback received from many instructors throughout my earlier years, there were also significant pushes of encouragement.  One of the most valuable pieces of wisdom given to me early in my painting experience when struggling to suppress my influences was being asked, “How is an oil painting supposed to look?”  Despite its rich history, oil painting can often appear to be locked within a particular style or subject matter similar to the old masters.  I believe that much more development, and more importantly individual interest, lies within preventing the restriction of one's own inspirations regardless of medium.

My practice today seeks to combine multiple aspects of art I have found intriguing, whether or not those influences are from a painting master hundreds of years ago, or from a contemporary manga artist today, discovering new possibilities through the combination of these seemingly opposing styles is what excites me the most.  Making these small discoveries and sharing them with others brings a unique kind of enjoyment that fuels my practice.
